Pharmaprofit.be is the online store of a Belgian pharmacy, covering personal care, vitamins, home care and first aid, pregnancy and children, and more. With a range of tens of thousands of items, maintaining product information and images by hand is not feasible. At the same time, a pharmacy store cannot simply show everything. The brief was a Magento store that fills itself continuously from a reliable source and enforces the rules on its own.

Medipim is a product database for the pharmacy and healthcare sector. An integration we built for Magento fetches product information and images automatically and keeps the store up to date. Products are placed in the right store category based on the Medipim categories, and variants of the same product, such as different strengths or sizes, are grouped on one page with a selector. Every product gets a clean URL automatically, and customers can also search by the CNK code used in Belgian pharmacies. Read more in our guide on the Medipim integration (in Dutch).

Not everything in the database belongs in the store. Medicines and prescription products are kept out automatically, as are items that are no longer on the market in Belgium. Products without an image or a valid price are not shown. For items that are not routinely in stock, customers see clearly that they are supplied to order, subject to availability.

The store is fully available in Dutch and French. The integration runs in the background and processes changes in batches, so the store stays fast for visitors. Tens of thousands of product images were filled in automatically from the source, and the integration records why a product is or is not online, so the pharmacy can always check.
